CAA 2019 protests: CM Yogi Adityanath Directs Officials To Keep An Eye on People Spreading Fake News

Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a video conference with state officials on Tuesday and directed them to keep an eye on people spreading fake news about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to reach out to religious preachers, clerics and other organizations and convince them that CAA 2019 is not discriminatory with any religion, caste or community.

“Those who are committing violence, they are not students, they are devils. Those who are tampering with the laws should be investigated thoroughly,” ANI quoted Adityanath saying.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s statement came just after the CAA 2019 protests in Rampur and Prayagraj. The police have imposed section 144 in Rampur after more than 200 people took to the streets to protest against the act.

The Act gives Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
