Caste Census Main Agenda For Congress In Madhya Pradesh: Surjewala

Mumbai: Following a meeting of Congress’ Central Election Committee, party leader Randeep Surjewala has said that it’s been decided that conducting a caste census will be the main agenda in Madhya Pradesh

The conference was attended by the president of the Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, as well as previous party leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, K C Venugopal, the general secretaries of the AICC responsible for the state, Randeep Surjewala, and Kamal Nath, as well as members of the central election committee.

“Today in Delhi, the Central Election Committee (CEC) met. We spoke about who should run for 140 seats. The names will be decided upon in the following 6-7 days, Nath assured reporters.

Surjewala and Jitendra Singh, however, claimed that all seats had been discussed and a decision would be made later.

The topic of a caste survey was brought up at the meeting, according to Surjewala.

“We have decided that (conducting) a caste census in Madhya Pradesh will be our main agenda,” Surjewala said to reporters.

When asked about the chief ministerial representative for the party in Madhya Pradesh, Surjewala responded, “Kamal Nath ji is president of Madhya Pradesh Congress, and whoever is the president of the Pradesh Congress that person is naturally the face of the Congress.”

Surjewala added that the CEC meeting covered topics like the alleged “corruption” of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, the state of peace and order, and crimes against women.

In Madhya Pradesh, a wind of change is blowing. As a result, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s name and contributions are no longer mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he claimed.

In answer to a query, Surjewala stated that the Congress in Madhya Pradesh places a high priority on the caste census. Justice for our OBC, SC, and ST brothers and sisters is our top priority. The caste census will be the main item on the Congress’ agenda, according to Kamal Nath ji and other Madhya Pradesh Congress comrades.

“There are 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, he added. Each seat’s political climate was discussed. Nearly every seat was considered; following a meeting, we will begin settling on names,” he said.

In Madhya Pradesh, elections for the 230-member assembly are anticipated to take place in November or December. The date of the elections has not yet been made public.

The BJP received 109 seats in the 2018 assembly elections, while the Congress won 114.

The Congress government was overthrown, nevertheless, when a large number of MLAs led by Jyotiraditya Scindia—who later was appointed a minister in the Union—joined the BJP.

In March 2020, the BJP retook control, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan serving a second term as chief minister. There are now 127 members of the BJP in the assembly.
