Combating COVID19: Lockdown In Maharashtra To Extend Till May End?

Mumbai: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray indicated on Friday that the lock imposed due to coronovirus outbreak in Maharashtra could be extended to the red areas till the end of May.

The state government is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in metropolitan areas of Mumbai and Pune, which have contributed nearly 90 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in Maharashtra.

During the meeting of all-party leaders through video conference, Uddhav Thackeray said that the lockdown in the red areas of the state could be extended till the end of May, in order to check the further spread of coronavirus, which has infected nearly 18,000 people in the state.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mocked the state government over its decision to open liquor shops and demanded a relief package to offset the financial losses incurred by the industrial sector.

“Asymmetric patients should be tested. The state should announce a fiscal package to revive the industrial sector. Plans to restart the economy should be worked out,” he said.

There were also some other leaders at the conference who had given revised orders to open liquor and standalone shops due to stranded migrants and lack of coordination in administration.
