COVID-19: Complete Lockdown In Telangana From Today

Mumbai: The Telangana government has announced a complete lockdown in the state till March 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

“While the state government is satisfied that the state of Telangana is threatened by the spread of Covid-19, which has already been declared an epidemic by the World Health Organization, and therefore it is necessary to take some more emergency measures to prevent the spreading virus. The Government in the exercise of the powers conferred under Section 2 of The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, read with all other enabling provisions of The Disaster Management Act, 2005, hereby notify lockdown in the entire State of Telangana with immediate effect till 31st March 2020,” stated an order from Telangana government dated March 22.

All state borders shall be sealed other than “movement of essential and perishable goods”.
During this period, all public transport services including TSRTC buses, SETWIN, Hyderabad Metro, taxis, auto-rickshaws will not be allowed.

The order states, “However, transportation of passengers to access emergency medical services will be permitted. Relying on private vehicles only for the purchase of essential goods and activities will be prohibited under this order.”

The operation of all interstate bus and transport services by private operators will be suspended till 31 March.
The order states, “Every person who is required to inspect the quarantine of the house shall strictly abide by the same failure, which shall be liable to punitive action and be transferred to the government quarantine.”

“Residents will stay at home and come out only for permissible activities strictly following the norms of social distortions. In any case, not more than one person will be allowed except the person driving the vehicle. Any congregation of more than 5 persons in public places is prohibited,” it said.

Telangana so far has reported 21 positive cases of coronavirus.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar on Sunday announced stringent measures under the 1897 Epidemic Diseases Act in the state.

To help people with essential commodities amid the lockdown, the government announced that it would provide 12 kg of rice for free to more than 87 lakh people holding white ration cards in the state:

The Chief Minister said, “Apart from this we are giving 1500 / – for each as they can buy other essential pulses. For this whole thing, the government is releasing Rs. 2,400,017 crore immediately.”

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that the total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 396 on Sunday after reports of fresh cases from different parts of the country.
