COVID-19 Impact Will Remain Visible In Coming Months, Masks And Face Veils Will Become Part Of Our Lives: PM Modi

Mumbai: As the nation slides towards the end of coronavirus lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the present situation with the CMs.

Around 9 state chief ministers from Meghalaya, Puducherry, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana spoke against the prevailing pandemic strategies. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi and Maharashtra CM along with Amit Shah and other PMO officials also joined the meet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the impact of coronaviruses would be visible in the coming months and that masks and face covers would be part of life, adding that the country would continue to value the economy as well as continue the fight against COVID-19.

The official release quoted Modi saying, “The country has seen two lockdowns so far, both are different in some aspects, and now we have to think the way forward. According to experts, the effect of coronovirus will be seen in the coming months.”

Repeating the mantra of ‘do gaz doori’, he said that Masks and face veils will become part of our lives in the coming days”.

“We have to give importance to the economy as well as continue the fight against COVID -19,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister underlined that the lockout has yielded positive results as the country has managed to save thousands of lives in the last month and a half.

“The population of India is equal to the combined population of many countries. The situation in many countries, including India, was almost identical at the beginning of March. However, due to timely measures, India has been able to protect many people.” he said.

However, Prime Minister Modi said that the threat of viruses is far away and constant vigilance is paramount.

The release said, “Prime Minister Modi said that under the circumstances, the aim of all should be a rapid response. He said that many people are self-proclaiming whether they have cough and cold or symptoms, and that this is a welcome sign.”

On the issue of bringing back Indians living abroad, the Prime Minister said that this should be done keeping in mind the fact that they are not inconvenienced and their families are not at any risk.

He also urged the Chief Ministers about changes in the weather – the arrival of summer and monsoon – and the diseases that could potentially come to the fore this season, making further strategies.

The Prime Minister emphasized the use of reform measures and the use of time as much as possible and the importance of ensuring that more and more people download the AarogyaSetu app to step up the country’s efforts in the battle of COVID-19.

“We have to be brave and bring in reforms that touch the lives of ordinary citizens. Those involved with universities can integrate ways to fight the epidemic and strengthen research as well as innovation,” he said.

He also explained the importance of states to strictly implement the guidelines in hotspots ie red zone areas.

“The efforts of the states should be directed to convert red areas into orange and then green areas,” he said.
