COVID19: Kerala Govt Imposes Additional COVID-Related Restrictions From Today

Mumbai: Amid a surge in new coronavirus infections, the Kerala government has decided to impose some additional restrictions in the state from Saturday to contain the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the positive rate.

Announcing the new restrictions, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the shops which are currently allowed to open can operate from 9 am to 7 pm on June 4.

Last week, the state government announced the extension of the statewide lockdown by another week till June. 9 with some relaxation for carrying out essential activities.

Covid norms, what’s allowed and what’s not:

  • From June 10, the government and quasi-government institutions, public sector undertakings, corporations and commissions will be allowed to function with 50 per cent staff strength.
  • People with travel permits within the state including delivery agents are not required to carry a COVID-19 negative certificate.
  • People coming to Kerala from other states must carry COVID-19 negative certificates.
  • The entire population of the panchayats bordering other states will be vaccinated. The change in symptoms will be monitored and genetic studies will also be conducted.
  • Health authorities must be alerted if any residents in residential flats turn positive. To ensure attention, the notice board must carry the information about the flat which has COVID-19 infected patients.
  • Municipal or Panchayat authorities should be informed apart from health centres and police stations. These responsibilities must be taken over by the resident associations in the respective flats. The lift in the flats should be sanitised at least three times a day.

Meanwhile, Kerala has registered 16,229 new Covid cases and 135 deaths. The fresh infections pushed that overall tally in the state to 25,71,057, while the toll has mounted to 9,510 with more people succumbing to the deadly disease. As many as 25,860 people recuperated from the disease, taking the total cured in the state to 24,16,639.
