Mumbai: A 17-year-old Dalit girl was raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda on Thursday. According to the autopsy report, she was strangled. The police have arrested two of the accused in separate encounters.
Police said the main accused, against whom a reward of Rs 25,000 was announced earlier, was arrested after a brief encounter. Police said he sustained a bullet injury in the leg and is undergoing treatment.
According to the police, they found the body of a minor girl in a field on Thursday night.
“He had bruises on his face. A preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was raped before the murder.
On the complaint of the father, a case of gang rape and murder has been registered against unknown people.
“With the help of surveillance, police came to know the involvement of the three men in the case. Later, in separate encounters, two accused were arrested,” said a police officer, adding that so far the accused don’t have any criminal history.
“One of the arrested is a neighbour of the girl, while the other is a resident of a neighbouring village. One of the accused knew the girl,” said the police officer.
Police said the post-mortem report stated that the girl was strangled to death.
