Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Announces Free 11,000 Wifi Hotspots, First 100 By Dec 16

Mumbai: In a recent development, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced, that the state government plans to set up 11,000 wifi-hotspots in the national capital within the next six months and the first 100 hotspots will be inaugurated on December 16.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “Providing free WiFi to the people of Delhi was an important part of our manifesto. Therefore, 11,000 WiFi-hotspots will be set up, with 4000 hotspots at bus stops and 7000 in the markets that will be divided as 100 hotspots per assembly. The first 100 hotspots will be inaugurated on 16 December. ”

He said, “It will cost around Rs 100 crore. After this, 500 WiFi-hotspots will be added every week and these 11,000 hotspots will be installed within 6 months. The move will help students and people from other areas.”
In August, the Chief Minister announced that 2.80 lakh CCTV cameras would be installed across the national capital along with 11,000 free WiFi hotspots.

The Chief Minister had also said that work for both CCTV and WiFi hotspots would begin within three to four months and the tender process would be completed.

Free Wi-Fi was the key electoral promise of AAP during the last assembly elections. Elections are to be held in the state soon.
