Delhi LG Urges Muslim Community Not To Leave Their Homes On Shab-e-Baaraat, Following COVID-19 Lockdown

Mumbai: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday appealed to Muslim community members not to leave their homes to offer namaz on the occasion of Shab-e-Baaraat and follow the security guidelines issued in view of the coronovirus lockdown.

Shab-e-Barat is seen in Islam as a day of forgiveness or atonement. This year, it is scheduled to be held on 9 April.

Baijal said in a statement, “People are requested not to move out of their homes and pray for the safety of their families. Everyone should avoid any behaviour that goes against COVID-19 security Compromises the guidelines.”

The Lieutenant Governor also appealed to all religious leaders, residents’ welfare associations and parents to advise the youth to fully observe the occasion and not gather together.

He said that Delhi Police would make elaborate arrangements in the public interest to ensure complete lockdown with zero tolerance for any violation.

In Delhi, 576 coronavirus cases have been reported, which includes 21 cured and discharged and 9 deaths.
