Demography Of Dispur To Change By 2050, ‘Illegal Settlers’ To Capture The City: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Sarma claims the Popular Front of India (PFI) was involved in violence and sought the organisation’s ban by the central government

Mumbai: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that “illegal settlers” are encroaching on government land and changing demography to capture the capital city of state Dispur by 2050.

According to a report by TOI, Sarma said that out of the 10,000 people in the area, 6,000 do not have their names even in the preliminary NRC. Also Read: LPG Price Hike: Commercial Gas Cylinder Price Hiked By Rs 43, To Cost Rs 1,736 In Delhi

Sarma said that he did not have access to intelligence files before but after he took charge as the Chief Minister of the state, he saw these reports which talk about a blueprint to take over constituencies after constituencies.

“Their common thought is to turn around the demography and emerge as the majority to take control of power at Dispur by 2050,” TOI quoted Sarma as saying. Also Read: GST Revenue Collected In September 2021 is Rs 1,17,010 Crore: Finance Ministry

He further said that if his government can stop this from happening then it will be a big achievement for them.

The CM further alleged that encroachers in Darrang district, who were evicted last week, were a part of this plan to grab the Sipajhar assembly constituency and alter the power equation. Also Read: COVID19: AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria Urges People To Stay Alert During This Festive Season

The state government said that the eviction drive was carried out with the permission of representatives of the people with Darrang district Additional Superintendent of Police Rupam Phukan saying that the authorities initiated actions only after the locals started pelting police with stones.

“After negotiation, as our JCBs and tractors proceeded they started pelting police and authorities with stones. They chased us with sharp weapons, injuring at least nine police personnel. Thereafter, we had to resort to firing and teargas shelling in order to control the situation,” said Phukan. Also Read: Australia Recognises Covishield COVID-19 Vaccine Ahead Of Border Reopening
