Mumbai: Union Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday launched a fresh attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Rahul Savarkar’ remarks last month.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister said that even after ten generations, Rahul Gandhi would not be able to counter the courage of Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar.
Smriti Irani while addressing a public meeting in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh said, “Rahul Gandhi recently said that he will not apologize. He is not Rahul Savarkar. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi today that your ten generations Even after that you will not be able to counter Savarkar’s courage.”
Smriti Irani also targeted the Congress party and recalled the number of arrests made during the Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The Union minister said, “It is the same Congress party that imprisoned Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Chaudhary Charan Singh and JP Narayan during the Emergency, but allowed criminals and smugglers like Karim Lala to roam freely in Mumbai.”
Last month, Rahul Gandhi had stirred a political storm during ‘Bharat Bachao’ rally when he said that he is “Rahul Gandhi not Rahul Savarkar” and that he will not apologise for speaking out the truth. His comments had come in the wake of increasing calls by BJP demanding an apology from him “for politicising the issue of rape”.
