Fans In Limited Numbers To Be Allowed For UAE Leg Of IPL 2021

Mumbai: The IPL will welcome the fans back to the stadiums in the UAE leg after a brief hiatus owing to the COVID-19 situation, the organisers announced today.

A statement released by the IPL media advisory read that people will get to witness the action from close quarters since the tournament gears up to welcome fans back.

IPL 2021, which was postponed to May earlier this year, will resume on Sunday with an edition of the UAE-leg with powerhouses Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. This match will be the first time after the final of IPL 2019 that fans will get a chance to participate in IPL matches.

“The VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 resumes with the five-time champions and current title holders Mumbai Indians taking on three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 19,” the release stated.

“This match will be a momentous occasion as IPL will welcome the fans back to the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to the Covid-19 situation.”

The matches will be played in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, with limited seating available as per COVID protocols and UAE government regulations. Last year’s IPL, which was shifted to the UAE, was played in empty stadiums.

As was the first half of this year’s tournament in India, which was suspended indefinitely on May 3 after several members of different franchises had tested positive for Covid-19.
