Farmers Put 6 Demands To PM Modi Including Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s Arrest

Despite PM Modi's surprise Friday announcement, farmer leaders have maintained they won't budge until the laws are formally repealed in Parliament

Mumbai: Samyukt Kisan Morcha has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi listing six demands including the sacking and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra over Lakhimpur Kheri violence after withdrawal of farm laws.

The demands also included a law guaranteeing MSP. The SKM sought the withdrawal of cases against farmers and built a memorial for the protesters who lost their lives.

  1. Sovereign guarantee for Minimum Support Price or MSP
  2. Withdrawal of cases against farmers in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states
  3. Allocation of land at Singhu border to construct a memorial for those who died during the protest against the three farm laws and compensation for the families of the dead
  4. Withdrawal of proposed Electricity Amendment Bill (2020-2021)
  5. Removal of penal provisions in the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Act-2021
  6. The sacking of MoS (Home) Ajay Mishra whose son Ashish Mishra is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri killings

Referring to Lakhimpur Violence, The SKM wrote in the letter, “Ajay Mishra Teni is roaming free and remains a minister in your Cabinet. He is sharing the stage with you and other senior ministers. He should be sacked and arrested.”

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Sunday held a press conference at Delhi’s Singhu border and announced that they would continue the protests for now, despite the PM asking the protesting farmers go to back to their homes.

The SKM has also decided to hold a crucial meeting on November 27 and organise a march to Parliament on November 29.

The farmers union have made it clear that they will stop only after the bill is repealed in the parliament. The Union Cabinet is likely to approve on Wednesday the withdrawal of the three farm laws and Bills would then be introduced in Parliament.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Central government will repeal the three contentious farm laws as they failed to ‘convince farmers’ that has sparked almost a year of massive protests by farmers.
