FIR Registered Against IAS Officer For Murdering His Wife

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, an FIR has been lodged against an IAS officer posted as a director of the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) for murdering his wife.

A senior police officer said the FIR was lodged under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (disappearance of evidence of crime, or misrepresentation) of the IPC in connection with the death of his wife Anita Singh at Chinhat police station.

Anita (42) was shot dead at the officer’s residence in Chinhat area on 1st September.

An FIR was lodged on the complaint of the victim’s cousin Rajiv Kumar Singh, who alleged that the IAS officer had relations with other women, due to which his sister was not happy and he (Umesh) used to assault her.

“She protested against her husband, who beat her. She also speculated that something untoward might have happened. On September 1, we were informed of the incident. We reached the postmortem house. We all We were very upset. We could not understand what to do, “Rajiv said in his complaint.

“Later, when we went through the media reports and photos of the incident, a doubt came to mind. We made a complaint to the police demanding his (Umesh) arrest as he is posted in Lucknow and has good contacts and can affect a fair investigation, the complaint said.

Police was informed that Anita had been shot and that her family members (husband and son) and a servant took her to a private hospital.

From there he came to the Trauma Center of King George’s Medical University, where he was pronounced dead.

Umesh had informed the police that his wife had shot himself using a licensed pistol and was declared dead at the trauma centre.
