First Fight Against The Virus, Later With Center: Mukhtar Naqvi To WB govt

Mumbai: Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Friday that the Mamata government in West Bengal is more focused on hiding the deadly COVID-19 situation in the state rather than controlling it.

“The West Bengal government should not hide the COVID-19 situation. Their priority should be to save the people from the crisis. Instead, they are busy hiding the impact of the virus,” Naqvi said to ANI.

He added that WB govt should first fight with this virus, and not with the center. He further said that the behavior of the Mamata government raises concerns over the sensitivity of the officials towards its people.

The state government of West Bengal has been asked by The Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to explain the methodology used to ascertain COVID-19 deaths, as the government is accused of hiding the actual situation in the state.

The Union Minister had also requested everyone to stay away from the spread of fake news and fabricated news in the media.

Congress leaders had alleged that the central government is overlooking the interests of the poor, responding to it Naqvi said that opposition should remember that this is not the time to play politics.

“I request Congress leaders not to play politics during the time of crisis. When the country is fighting against the deadly virus, you are busy fighting the center. The top priority today should be fighting the virus,” said Naqvi.

“Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, every person in the country is working hard to defeat COVID-19. India is a country where people from all religions live and they are united in this fight,” he added.
