Free Travel For All Working Women And Girls In Govt Buses, Rs 2,000 As COVID Time Relief: Stalin Signs First Set Of Order As TN CM

Mumbai: DMK president MK Stalin on Friday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Raj Bhavan in Chennai. Soon after the swearing-in, Stalin ordered an extension of insurance cover for the treatment of novel coronaviruses in private hospitals for the beneficiaries of the Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.

He also ordered payment of Rs 2,000 as the first instalment to all ration card holders eligible to get rice as COVID-19 impact relief. The scheme involving an outlay of Rs 4,153.39 crore will help around 2.07 crore ratio cardholders.

In its election manifesto, the DMK party vowed to provide Rs 4,000 as a relief to the poor in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic. “To implement this, the Chief Minister signed an order in May itself to provide the first instalment of Rs 2,000 for Rs 4,153.69 crore, covering 2,07,67,000 ration cardholders,” the official release said.

Here’s the list of all five orders that Stalin signed after taking the oath of office:

  • The expenses for COVID treatment in private hospitals will be covered under the Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme and will be reimbursed to the hospitals by the government.
  • Stalin announced free travel for all working women and girls pursuing higher education on board government buses (ordinary fare) in cities across the state from Saturday.
  • Rs 4,000 will be immediately provided to all ‘Rice’ ration cardholders in the state in an attempt to provide them with some relief amidst the pandemic. Of the Rs 4,000, Rs 2,000 will be distributed in the month of May and the remaining will be given later.
  • The price of Aavin milk to be reduced by Rs 3 as a relief measure for residents, as promised by the DMK in its manifesto.
  • Stalin ordered the institution of mechanism to redress, within 100 days, all grievances raised by people in petitions submitted to him during the run-up to the Assembly elections

As per the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme, the Tamil Nadu government will pay COVID-19 treatment costs incurred in private hospitals.

A new IAS officer-headed department will be set up to process and solve the issues petitioned by the people, as per the “Chief Minister in Your Constituency.”
