HC Granted Bail To Bishop Franco Mulakkal

Mumbai : Recently Kerala High Court granted an conditional bail too Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who was earlier accused for raping and sexually assaulting a nun. The court has ordered Bishop to surrender his passport and will not be entering Kerala state except for appearing before the probe officer once in two weeks on Saturdays.

This condition would be applicable till a chargesheet is filed in the case.

After a magistrate court extendend his remand, priest approached the high court for the bail. Whereas earlier this month accepting the prosecution stand HC had rejected his bail.

The Nun alleged Bishop that he had raped her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014, and sexually exploited her for several timesover a period of two years from May 5 2014. The Church authorities did not took any action even after repeated complaints, I had to approach towards police. The complaint was registered in Kottayam police in June.

According to medical report it was confirmed that the nun was sexually assaulted said police. It said the bishop had used his spiritual authority to exploit the nun. A day with the bishop programme was also misused by the bishop, the report said. Later on the reports were submitted on court.

Mulakkal is one of the first Bishop who was alleged for raped charges, was held after three days of intense questioning in September. He was arrested under the, statements of witnesses, and the nun’s statement under Section 164 of the CrPC.
