Kalaben along with her son Abhinav and hundreds of supporters had joined Shiv Sena last month after her husband committed suicide in February this year.

Mohan Delkar represented the BJP before contesting the 2019 election as an independent and winning the seat, reflecting his widespread popularity among the masses.

Mohan Delkar, a seven-time MP from the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, reached Mumbai by road in February and his body was found hanging in a hotel room by his driver.

His son Abhinav Delkar alleged that his father was constantly being harassed and his supporters in the local administration forced him to take his own life.

The bypoll to the Dadra Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha constituency (reserved for ST) saw an enthusiastic response with a 75.91 per cent turnout on Saturday.
