West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Declares Victory In All 4 Seats In Bypolls

Mumbai: TMC supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday declared victory in all four seats in state bypolls, which were held on October 30.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter and congratulated all the candidates for emerging victorious in the bypolls. She further said, “this victory is people’s victory, as it shows how Bengal will always choose development and unity over propaganda and hate politics. With people’s blessings, we promise to continue taking Bengal to greater heights!.”

Counting of votes began at 8 am in Kharda, Shantipur, Gosaba and Dinhata amid tight security.

According to news agency PTI, in Dinhata in Coochbehar district, which was earlier considered a BJP stronghold, TMC’s Udayan Guha was ahead of his nearest rival, BJP’s Ashok Mandal by a huge margin of 1,31,890 votes.

After 15 rounds, Guha got 1,51,163 votes, while Mandal got 19,562 votes.

After 15 rounds of counting, TMC was ahead of its rival BJP by an impressive margin of 1,33,318 votes in the Gosaba assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas.

TMC’s Subrata Mandal got 1,51,452 votes, while nearest rival BJP’s Palash Rana got just 18,134 votes.

Braj Kishore Goswami of TMC is leading by a margin of 24,330 over his nearest rival Niranjan Biswas of BJP in Shantipur assembly constituency, famous for handloom industry.

After the eighth round, Goswami got 52,776 votes, while Biswas got 28,446 votes.

In the Khardah assembly constituency, state minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay is ahead of CPI(M)’s Devjyoti Das, who is second in the counting of votes so far by a margin of 46,728 votes.

After the ninth round, Chattopadhyay got 58,706 votes, while Das got 11,978 votes.

Elections are being held amid tight security. Officials said that apart from imposing Section 144 within 100 meters of the counting places, there is tight security around them.

The bypolls were necessitated as the BJP MLAs for Dinhata and Santipur resigned to retain their MP seats while the TMC legislators of Kharadah and Gosaba died.
