Govt Has Failed: Priyanka Gandhi Visits Farmers Families Who Died Waiting For Fertiliser In Lalitpur

A 55-year-old farmer in Lalitpur died of a cardiac arrest while standing in a queue outside a fertilizer shop

Mumbai: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday met the families of 4 farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur, who allegedly fell ill and died while waiting in the line for purchasing agricultural fertilizer.

During the interaction, Priyanka Gandhi Varda said that the government has completely ignored farmers.

“The govt has failed, it has completely ignored farmers. This is not an issue of these 4 farmers alone, this is an issue of the entire Bundelkhand,” said Priyanka Gandhi.

In Lalitpur, 55-year-old Bhogilal Pal of Nayagaon died of a cardiac arrest while standing in a queue outside a fertilizer shop. He had reportedly been waiting for his turn to purchase fertilizer for two days.

The Bundelkhand region of UP has been facing agricultural fertilizer scarcity.

She further slammed the centre over the ignorance of farmers for months and accused the government of not listening.

“Lesser quantity of fertiliser is now being given in sacks & the price has been increased. What will they do? They have a lot of issues but govt isn’t listening. They know that farmers are on roads for months. They are being mowed down by vehicles,” she added.

Priyanka’s Lalitpur comes ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in the state early next year.
