Gram Panchayat Member Rapes Woman At Gunpoint In B’luru; Arrested

Mumbai: The Bengaluru Rural police on Thursday arrested a gram panchayat member for allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint at a farmhouse. The accused also took photos of the woman and threatened to distribute them if she told anyone, police said.

The accused has been identified as Ahmed Pasha, who is a member of Bilwaradahalli Gram Panchayat in Bannerghatta.

The Hindu reported that he has been booked under sections of rape and blackmail under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. The report quoted a police officer as saying that they are confirming whether the gun recovered from the accused is licensed, illegal or fake.

The police have also arrested the accused’s driver, Wahid, who allegedly took the victim to the accused’s farmhouse. The report said that he also pulled out two children of the victim during the crime.

As per media reports that the woman had lodged a complaint with the police on the evening of June 16, on the basis of which the police made the arrest.

Reports further stated that the accused befriended the survivor on social media and offered to help her during the lockdown. He introduced himself as a councillor who was helping the poor in lockdown. Promising a modelling job, Pasha on Monday called the woman home on the pretext of a meeting.

A senior police officer is quoted in The Hindu as saying that as the woman brought her two children along, Pasha asked Wahid to take the children out for breakfast. The report said that the woman took her children along as she was apprehensive about meeting the stranger.

In addition to raping the woman at gunpoint, Pasha allegedly took photographs of the woman and threatened to distribute the photos if the woman spoke about the crime with anyone, including the police. The report said the woman was also asked to follow her further instructions to meet again.
