Gujarat Reports 493 COVID-19 Cases, Death Toll Rises 23

Mumbai: A Health Department official said on Sunday that the number of coronovirus cases in Gujarat has risen to 493, while 25 new patients have been detected in the state.

State Chief Secretary (Health) Jayanthi Ravi told reporters that 23 people have died in the state so far, including a 75-year-old man, who succumbed to illness at a hospital in Ahmedabad late Saturday.

The man also suffered from hypertension, she said.

Of the 25 new cases, 23 are from Ahmedabad and two from Anand district. Ahmedabad has the highest number of COVID-19 cases reported at 266, and 11 deaths.

Apart from this, 95 cases in Vadodara, Surat-28, Bhavnagar 23, Rajkot-18, Patan-14, Bharuch-eight, Anand-seven, Kutch-four, Porbandar and Chhota Udepur-three each, Mehsana and Gir Somnath- two each, and Panchmahal, Jamnagar, Morbi, Sabarkantha and Dahod-one each.

A total of 44 patients have been discharged after recovering from the infection.

The state has tested 10,995 samples so far, of which 2,663 were tested in the last 24 hours. Results of 116 samples are pending, the official said.

Out of 426 active cases, the condition of 422 patients is stable, while four are on ventilator support, she added.
The number of patients who contract the infection through local transmission has increased to 428.

In addition, the state health department said that the number of patients with inter-state travel history is 32, while 33 other patients have foreign travel history.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to coronavirus has surged to 273 in the country. Out of the total cases, 7,367 cases are active, while 716 patients have been cured, discharged or migrated.
