Maha: 35,000 Cases Of Prohibitory Orders, Quarantine Violation

Mumbai: A senior official said that Maharashtra Police has registered more than 35,000 crimes across the state against those who violated the restrictive orders and quarantine guidelines during the bandh imposed since last month.

In an effort to stop the spread of coronovirus and strictly enforce the lockdown, the police started a stringent action against the culprits from March 22 by registering a case under section 188 (disobedience to duly order for a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.

He said that till now police had arrested at least 2,525 people across the state under Section 188 of the IPC. In addition, 70 cases of assault on police personnel have been reported, for which 161 people have been arrested.

The official said that about 475 people have been found violating the quarantine orders.

Police have so far handled more than 61,000 calls in their various control rooms in relation to coronaviruses and related issues.

As of Saturday, the police registered 803 offences for illegal transportation, saying 19,675 vehicles were seized and a fine of Rs 1.23 crore was recovered from their owners.

So far, three police personnel on duty have tested positive for coronavirus in the state, he said.
