Head Smashes Fastest Test Century At Gabba As Aus Lead Eng By 196 Runs After Day 2

Mumbai: Australia middle-order batter Travis Head smashed the fastest hundred at the Gabba off 85 deliveries as Australia ended Day 2 of the first Ashes 2021-22 Test at 343/7, leading England by 196 runs.

At stumps, Australia’s score read 343/7 with the hosts extending their lead to 196 runs. Head (112*) and Mitchell Starc (10*) are currently unbeaten at the crease.

Resuming the third and final session at 193/3, Australia lost back-to-back wickets of David Warner (94) and Cameron Green (0) and were reduced to 195/5. Warner and Green were dismissed by Ollie Robinson.

After this, Alex Carey and Travis Head came to the crease and both added 41 runs for the sixth wicket, although Chris Woakes shortened the stand by dismissing Carey (12) in the 65th over.

Pat Cummins also went on with a 12-run stand, but Head made a counterattack as he completed his century, further cementing Australia’s position in the match.
