Heavy Police Deployment For MNS March On Sunday

Mumbai: An official said on Saturday that a large number of police personnel would be deployed on the route of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Morcha in Mumbai on Sunday.

The Raj Thackeray-led party has organized a march to demand the eviction of illegal (Muslim) immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh living in India.

Thousands of MNS workers are expected to take part in the ‘Mahamurcha’, which will start at 12 noon in the Azad Maidan in South Mumbai along the Marine Drive from the Hindu Gymkhana.

Thackeray is about to address the gathering in the grounds.

PTI quoted a Mumbai Police spokesperson as saying, “Apart from the local police, the State Reserve Police Force (DRPF), the riot control police, quick response teams (QRT), bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), and an additional 600 Policemen will be stationed on the Morcha Marg.”

He also said that police personnel would be mingled with the mob in the civic to keep an eye on anti-social elements.

“In addition, CCTV and drones will be used to monitor the crowd,” he said.

Another official said that some roads would remain closed for vehicular traffic while traffic on other roads would be stopped on Sunday.
