Holi Revellers Violate COVID-19 Norms In Mumbai Suburb

Mumbai: A large number of people, most of whom were without masks, gathered on a road in Mumbai’s Mahim area on Monday morning and celebrated Holi by dancing to fast music in violation of COVID-19 guidelines.

Around 100 to 150 people came out of their homes to celebrate the festival on the road located in Mahim Koliwada, even the police officers present there did nothing to stop them.

Some women danced to loud music, while some individuals in the crowd were seen wearing PPE suits.

A police officer said that he asked people to stop the music and go back to their homes, but they ignored the advice.

Later, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pranay Ashok and other senior police officers reached the spot and stopped the revelations, he said.

“We asked people to stretch and evacuate the road. So far, no FIR has been lodged,” said Vilas Shinde, senior inspector of Mahim police station.

Seeing the rise in COVID-19 cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced last week that Holi celebrations would not be allowed at both private or public places in the city.

Another prominent police officer said that despite appeals to celebrate a low Holi, people were seen wearing masks and violating social discrimination norms at many places in the city on Monday.

Struggling to arrest the new surgeon in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government on Saturday announced a ban on all types of ceremonies, including political and religious.

Maharashtra has seen a huge rise in coronavirus positive cases over the last week. As many as one lakh new cases of the viral infection were added to the state’s tally in such a short period.
