Hope Rohit And Rahul Can Win An ICC Tournament Very Soon: Gambhir

Skipper Virat Kohli will step down, meanwhile Ravi Shastri’s contract comes to an end this month

Mumbai: Team India couldn’t live the dream of winning an ICC trophy after 8 years and crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2021 after New Zealand’s win over Afghanistan.

However, a new era in Indian Cricket is going to begin as Present skipper Virat Kohli had announced his decision to step down after the T20 World Cup a couple of months back. Along with the skipper, India will have a new coaching staff at the helm as Ravi Shastri’s contract ends this month. He has already been replaced by Rahul Dravid. Most other coaches are also set to be replaced. Also Read: Want To Continue With Same Momentum Against Australia In Semi-Final: Babar

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir said that he is hopeful of the pair of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid taking India to a title win in an ICC event. Rohit looks set to replace Virat Kohli as the next T20I captain while head coach Dravid will take charge soon.

“I hope Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid take Indian cricket forward in this format and win an ICC tournament very soon, following the template of England,” he told Star Sports. Also Read: T20 WC: PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja Hails Pakistan’s ‘Incredible Effort’ In Super 12 Stage

Rohit has never led India in an ICC event and will be making his captaincy debut in a global event in T20 World Cup 2022. As for Dravid, he captained India in one ICC event and coached the junior teams in two U-19 World Cups.

In 2016, the Ishan Kishan-led side made it to the final, where they lost to West Indies. In 2018, Prithvi Shaw captained the team to a title win after an emphatic win over Australia.

In 2014, he worked as India’s batting consultant for England Tests. In July 2021, he took over as stand-in head coach in Shastri’s absence. This will be Dravid’s maiden full-time stint with Team India.
