Husband Gives UP Woman Triple Talaq Over WhatsApp After She Donates Kidney To Brother
Mumbai: A man gave triple talaq to his wife over WhatsApp after she told him that she donated a kidney to her sick brother. The wife lives in Uttar Pradesh while her husband lives in Saudi Arabia.
The man became furious over the kidney donation and demanded ₹40 lakh from her. Upon her refusal, he sent her a triple-talaq message.
The woman then went to the police with her complaint, and they took action, registering a case and promising to prosecute.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) administration enacted the Triple Talaq law on August 1, 2019, which made it illegal for Muslim males to grant their wives a “instant divorce.”
A guy who uses triple talaq to divorce his wife faces a three-year prison sentence. Without a warrant, an arrest can be made, and a magistrate has the only authority to grant bail.
The Supreme Court termed the practice of ‘triple talaq’ as “void”, “illegal” and “unconstitutional”.
“Triple talaq”, or talqa-e-biddah as its known among Muslim communities, is a practice which gives a man the right to divorce his wife by uttering ‘talaq’ three times in one sitting, in any form including email or text message, without his wife’s consent.
