I Will Definitely Be With RCB Next Year, Don’t Know In Which Capacity Yet: AB de Villiers

Interestingly, former RCB captain Virat Kohli had indicated in a conversation with Danish Sait that de Villiers is likely to join the RCB squad next year

Mumbai: Former South Africa and RCB wicketkeeper-batter AB de Villiers have said that he will definitely be around the IPL next year. de Villiers, however, did not give many details about his role but it is more or less confirmed that he won’t return to RCB as a player.

He may join the team as an advisor or mentor before the start of IPL 2023. Interestingly, former RCB captain Virat Kohli had indicated in a conversation with Danish Sait that de Villiers is likely to join the RCB squad next year.

“I am glad that Virat has confirmed it,” de Villiers told VUSport. The former South Africa captain said that he would love to see the Chinnaswamy Stadium (RCB’s home ground) at full capacity.

“To be honest, we haven’t decided anything on it yet, but I’ll be around IPL next year, I’m missing it, don’t know in what capacity as of now. I’ve heard that Bangalore next year and I would like to visit my second home and watch the full capacity Chinnaswamy stadium – I am looking forward to it,” de Villiers added.

AB de Villiers, who last played for RCB in IPL 2021, has decided not to return to the cash-rich league this year.

Kohli, who decided to step down as RCB captain before this season, said that he misses him dearly and hopes that he will join RCB soon.

“I miss him a lot. I talk to him regularly, regularly. He keeps texting me. He was recently in America watching golf. What I heard was called Augusta Masters. So he told me that he was experiencing it with his friends and family. So we are in touch and he is very keenly watching RCB and hopefully will be here next year with some capacity,” Kohli had told Danish Sait earlier.

AB de Villiers is one of the most successful foreign cricketers in IPL. He started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils but moved to RCB in 2011 and played 11 seasons for the franchise till last year. This brilliant right-handed batsman is the second-highest run-scorer of RCB, having scored 4522 runs in 157 matches.
