ICC T20I Rankings: Babar Azam Dethrones Malan To Become Top-Ranked Batter

Mumbai: Two consecutive half-centuries from Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 have helped him overtake England’s David Malan and regain the top spot for batsmen in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings.

Babar, who reached the semi-finals with 51 against Afghanistan and 70 against Namibia, is on top for the sixth time in his career. The 27-year-old had topped for the first time on January 28, 2018.

He is currently ranked No. 1 in ODIs as well. Babar’s 834 rating points put him 36 points ahead of Dawood Malan but Babar’s career-best 896 ratings points were achieved by scoring 65 against England in Cardiff on 5 May 2019. Malan was at the top since November 29 last year.

England’s performance in the tournament is also reflected in the rankings, with both their openers Jos Buttler and Jason Roy leading the way in the latest weekly updates. Buttler has moved up eight places to a career-best ninth position with his maiden T20I century against Sri Lanka, while Roy has moved up five places to 14th.
