ICC Test Ranking: Mayank Agarwal Jumps To 11th Spot, R Ashwin One Step Close To No.1 Pat Cummins

Ravichandra Ashwin has risen to second spot among all-rounders, Agarwal surges 30 places in the rank

Mumbai: Following a 372-run win over New Zealand in the recently concluded 2nd Test, Batter Mayank Agarwal and Spinner R Ashwin, have made big gains in the new ICC Test Rankings.

Agarwal has surged 30 places to 11th in the ICC Test Rankings for batsmen after smashing 150 runs in the first innings and a 62-run knock in the second, against New Zealand in Wankhede. Agarwal is just one spot shy of cracking the top-10 batsmen list.

Among bowlers, a seasoned Indian off-spinner has closed the gap on top-ranked bowler Pat Cummins for the number-one slot. With an 8-wicket haul in the Mumbai Test, Ashwin has increased his rating by 43 points to 883, putting him 67 points clear of Josh Hazlewood in 3rd position. He has risen to the second spot among all-rounders, while his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja has slid to fourth place, in the list led by West Indies Jason Holder.

Ajaz Patel of New Zealand, who took a match-high 10-for in the first innings of the Mumbai Test, has climbed 23 places to 38th place after finishing with 14 wickets. Patel, who was born in Mumbai, had a prior best ranking of 53rd and had begun the season in 62nd place.

In Wednesday’s update, Holder moved up one rank to 14th among bowlers, taking into account performances from the Galle Test, which Sri Lanka won by 164 runs to secure a 2-0 series triumph and maintain their lead in the ICC World Test Championship points table sponsored by MRF Tyres.

Batters Kraigg Brathwaite (up 10 places to 39th) and Nkrumah Bonner (up 17 places to 42nd) have advanced for the West Indies, while Player of the Match Dhananjaya de Silva after his unbeaten 155 in the second innings, has moved up 12 places to 21st.

Spinners Lasith Embuldeniya and Ramesh Mendis have also improved significantly. After taking seven wickets in the match, Embuldeniya has moved up five places to 32nd, while Mendis has moved up 18 places to 39th with an 11-wicket haul.
