Important Not To Allow Pressure To Creep In: Rohit Sharma Ahead Of IndoPak Clash

Mumbai: Rohit Sharma is all set to face his next big Test as the captain of Team India in the Asia Cup 2022, starting from August 27 to September 11. The Hitman has an exceptional record as T20I captain, having won 29 out of 35 matches.

Since being handed the captain’s role, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have dominated teams in the T20I format and won several awards for their performances.

With the countdown to the Asia Cup 2022 and the biggest rivalry between India and Pakistan on August 28, the stakes will be higher than ever for Hitman and the team to become the champions of Asia for the eighth time.

Speaking on the Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues’, Team India captain Rohit Sharma shared his captaincy mantra and how he and the team handled the pressure ahead of marquee tournaments like the Asia Cup 2022, “As a captain, it’s very important that we create an environment for the players where they don’t feel like it’s a very high-pressure environment. We try to create (an environment) for people on this team to come out and have fun and enjoy each other’s company. Because I feel strongly that it is important not to let the pressure build up too much. When you are playing, obviously there will be pressure because when you are holding the ball in your hand there is pressure on you as a bowler.

When you are batting in the middle there is pressure and that is what you have to handle on your own. Be it the captain or the coach or whoever, nothing can be done about it except ourselves. So, I think those aspects – of course, it’s your responsibility, but there are so many other factors that come into play and I think I need to take care of that.”

The Asia Cup 2022 will be played between August 27 to September 11 and will be shown on the Star Sports network.
