In a recent development, Imran Khan on Sunday criticized the opposition’s move to oust him from power after ruling PTI member Qasim Suri rejected a no-confidence motion against Khan under Article 5 of the Constitution. Khan has now called for fresh elections.

The government described attempts to “topple the government” as part of a foreign conspiracy, while opposition leaders accused Khan of misgovernance and blamed him for the economic crisis in the country.

The Supreme Court will hear the matter on Monday after the opposition’s protest on the rejection of the no-confidence motion. The Supreme Court will decide whether the no-confidence vote will be taken again or fresh elections – which the Imran Khan government has said is likely to be held in three months – will happen.

The country remained in trouble even on Sunday ahead of the much-awaited no-confidence motion in Parliament and security was tightened in the capital Islamabad. Imran Khan was not in the assembly when the debate started about an hour after the session began.

Within minutes, as the motion was rejected, chaos erupted, the assembly session was adjourned and Imran Khan delivered a surprise speech to the nation, calling for fresh elections.
