India has been recording less than 1,000 deaths due to coronavirus every day for almost two weeks now.

Mumbai: India has reported 32,906 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest rise in daily cases in nearly four months.

The country, however, reported 2,020 deaths in the last 24 hours as Madhya Pradesh on Monday added 1,478 backlog deaths. The new deaths pushed the fatality toll to 4,10,784.

According to the data of the Union Health Ministry, out of 2,020 deaths, Madhya Pradesh alone accounted for 1,481 deaths in a day.

India has been recording less than 1,000 deaths due to coronavirus every day for almost two weeks now.

The fresh infections took the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 3,09,05,819, while the active caseload came down to 4,31,315, the lowest in 109 days and 1.4 per cent of the total cases.

The Indian Medical Association on Monday warned that the third wave of COVID-19 is “inevitable and imminent” and said tourism and pilgrimage could wait for a few more months.

“It is painful to note that in this crucial time, when everyone needs to work for the mitigation of the third wave, in many parts of the country, both governments and the public are complacent and engaged in mass gatherings without following COVID protocols,” the top medical body said.

“Opening up these rituals and enabling people without vaccination to go scot-free in these mass gatherings are potential super spreaders for the Covid third wave,” it added.
