Indian Railways Urges Citizens To Postpone All Journeys After 12 Passengers Tested Positive For COVID-19

Mumbai: The railway ministry said on Saturday that about twelve people, who have recently travelled by two different trains, have tested positive for coronavirus.

While eight of the 12 passengers travelled from Delhi to Ramagundam on 13 March by AP Sampark Kranti Express, four travelled on 16 March from Mumbai to Jabalpur via Godan Express.

The ministry has asked people not to travel in passenger and long-distance trains unless absolutely necessary.

“Railways have found that 4 passengers from the Godan Express (Train 11055) going from Mumbai to Jabalpur on March 16 in B1 coach were tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. They came to India from Dubai last week. The concerned have been alerted take necessary action, “tweeted the Ministry of Railways.

It further added, “8 passengers travelling from Ramgundam to Delhi on April 13 from AP Sampark Kranti Express have tested COVID-19 positive yesterday. Travellers were advised to avoid non-essential travel for the safety of fellow citizens.”

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India has now climbed up to 271, including 32 foreigners. A number of trains have been cancelled in the wake of coronavirus scare.
