India’s Monsoon: A Dichotomy

Mumbai: When considered India’s weather conditions, it has always being a contrast between its states weather forecast. While some states battle drought for decades while others suffer huge losses due to heavy rainfalls causing floods and huge loss of life and property.

The reason behind this uncertainty is that some parts in India experience floods and droughts at the same time because the monsoon is not uniform in India. Monsoon winds blow moreover some areas bringing heavy rainfall and floods. But some areas are deprived of monsoon winds and rain which causes drought.

According to Forbes India report, due to floods, more than 6,500 deaths have been reported from 2016 to 2019 in India.

The spectre of drought looms over the country almost as a certainty like the annual floods. It is reported that almost all central Indian states are lurching under severe water scarcity. Much beyond the news reports, statistics and the weather graphs, the drought is a calamity that unfolds in the anguish of people struggling for water. The situation is worst and difficult to even imagine. The most drought-prone states are Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Effects of the water scarcity are seen even after rains have emerged in almost all of India.

Where the country tried to lift Chennai from droughts, it also makes an effort to save Assam from its floods caused which devastated more than 4,663 villages.
