Hong Kong: Extradition Bill – A Total Failure

Mumbai: The government of Hong Kong has been pushing the extradition bill since the 9th of July thus aggravating the citizens of the country. The bill allows China mainland to hold trials on HK’s citizens.

Hong Kong citizens are afraid by the fact that they could be picked up from the streets of Hong Kong and lawfully transported to China for a trial, just because they spoke their minds out about the country China.

The Hong Kong government in the bill gave permission to try their citizens in Taiwan, but Taiwan seeing the citizen’s unrest declined, but still Hong Kong, as per reports, insisted.

Though the country is to be merged with mainland China it still has years before doing that. According to the deal between the countries after independence from the Britishers, Hong Kong has 50 years to thrive as an independent country, but China is trying to infringe on the deal. And the anti-china people aren’t accepting it.

2 million people took to the streets of Hong Kong already due to the growing disappointment and fury against the law government is imposing on the people so fast. People demanded Carrie Lam to step down and let them choose their own leaders. The people also took the help of Twitter to let their condition be known to the world. Many professionals from the country like doctors, engineers, lawyers and reporters have expressed their discontent in the government by speaking on social media platforms.

On 12th June people came out on the streets again, but the police had an upper hand on the citizens, they arrested, attacked with tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets at people. In short, the silent protestors were attacked by police, with 70 injured and 3 in severe condition. Reports also state that police breached the computer system to get the details of people and arrested people from the hospital even when the hospital was against this happening.

The next protest was taken to LEGCO- a type of Hong Kong Parliament. The silent protestors stormed in and sprayed black paint on China’s flag and HK’s logo. The protestors left on their own without harming in historical objects and leaving the library safe behind.

2 weeks ago a sha tin protest was organised, where once again the police forced the people to leave the place. But this time police used force to drive people into the New Town Plaza and closed all the exits. Police kept on asking the people to leave even when they themselves had locked the doors. Not only protestors but the family who had come to the mall were the target of the police. They shot tear gas and pepper sprays on the people. The people fought back. Up until now, the mall has bloodstains on the floor.
Tuen Mun violence.

On Saturday protests were carried out on the Hong Kong island. After being driven away by police by rubber bullets, the protestors ran away through trains and halted at Tuen mun, the most populated residential city. After stepping out of the train the people were attacked by a group of people dressed in white- pro-China citizens.

The protestors in black were repeatedly beaten by rods and sticks, wounds and blood spread all over. Even the police ignored the calls saying they(protestors) shouldn’t be there in the first place. The police arrived at the location after an hour, when most of the attackers had left. And even after spotting a couple of the white-dressed wounded attackers the police left them with a statement, they(attackers) had no weapons to attack in their hands. One of the victims of the attack was a journalist and pro-democracy lawmaker.
