It’s Just About Adapting To The Conditions: Williamson After Win vs India

Mumbai: New Zealand captain Kane Williamson praised his side’s performance after their eight-wicket win against India in the 28th match of the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday.

The 31-year-old said that he believes it is important to adapt to spin-bowling conditions in such high-pressure tournaments. Also Read: I Don’t Think We Were Brave Enough With Bat Or Ball: Virat Kohli After Defeat

Their spinner Mitchell Santner returned with figures of 4-0-15-0, while second slow bowler Ish Sodhi was awarded Player of the Match for taking the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while also for one were going. Only 17 in his four overs.

“There are always plans to go into games, but it was a great all-around performance against a stellar Indian outfit that puts up an incredible fight. Today most things went our way, and we were very clinical on all faces. We were able to put pressure on a surface where it was not easy to find the rhythm, and then the openers set the stage for us to chase.”

“It’s just about adapting [the spin attack] to the conditions that we can. For us, both the spinners balanced the attack and they were both excellent today. I think the collective unit was impressive, the way they kept passing the baton. We saw some very good signs in our first match as well, which was a tight one, and we built on that,” said Kane Williamson in the post-match presentation ceremony.

New Zealand won the toss and put pressure on the Indian batsmen, who were struggling to find their momentum since the loss against Pakistan. He could only score 110 runs, which was chased by the New Zealand batsmen with 33 balls to spare.

The Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team will next take on Scotland in Dubai on Wednesday. Later that day, India will take on Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.
