Joe Root Named ICC Men’s Test Cricketer Of 2021

Mumbai: England captain Joe Root was on Monday named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2021. Root scored 1708 runs in 15 matches with six centuries in 2021 and was the cornerstone of England’s batting.

Joe Root’s stupendous form in 2021 can be summed up with a simple statistic – he has become the third player in history to score more than 1700 runs in Test cricket in a calendar year. Only Mohammad Yusuf and Sir Vivian Richards are standing ahead of them. Also Read: Pakistan Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi Named ICC Men’s Cricketer 2021

Be it Asia or home conditions and against a range of bowling types, Root has won almost everyone with some scintillating knocks.

His innings against Sri Lanka at Galle and against India at both Chennai and Lord’s have been viewed as some of the best in the modern era and will be discussed for a long time.

He hasn’t been too shabby with the ball even after taking 14 wickets, including a five-wicket haul in Ahmedabad.

Root’s 218 in the first Test of the four-match series against India in Chennai was a masterclass in batting. He executed a quality bowling attack with complete ease in both pace and spin. It continued his form from the series in Sri Lanka, where he was again in sensational touch.

Batting on 377 balls, the Indian bowling had no answer to the original puzzle as they set up a 227-run victory for the visitors.

This was also a sign of things to come for the remainder of the year, as the England skipper played knock after knock of the highest calibre, irrespective of the opposition.
