Karnataka Imposes Complete Lockdown From 6 am On May 10 Till May 24

Mumbai: To contain the spread of COVID, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday, announced that a complete lockdown in the state from 6 am on May 10 till 6 am on May 24.

“As COVID-19 cases are surging in the state, Corona Curfew was not successful. So, a complete lockdown will be imposed from 10th May 6 am to 24th May 6 am,” he said.

All hotels, pubs and bars will remain closed. Eateries, meat shops and vegetable shops can operate from 6-10 am.

“Not even a single person will be allowed after 10 am in the lockdown; I have suggested to police officers to take stringent action. We have decided this after looking at the death toll and increasing number of cases,” Yediyurappa said.

The chief minister also requested migrant labourers to not leave the state, saying that the lockdown was a ‘temporary measure. “It’s a temporary decision of lockdown, I request migrant labourers to not leave,” he said.

He further says, “If we have to break the chain of infection then we have to initiate result-oriented measures like a 14-day lockdown imposed last year at the start of the pandemic.”

“If people wish that stringent measures should not be taken, then people should cooperate by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Otherwise, strong measures will become necessary,” it added.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Karnataka has registered 592 deaths, its highest single-day fatality count, pushing the toll in the state to 17,804. With 48,781 new coronavirus cases, the infection tally climbed to 18,38,885. The positivity rate for the day stood at 30.69%.
