Make Arrangements To Vaccinate All Within 3-4 Months: HC To UP Govt

Mumbai: Allahabad High Court on Friday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to make arrangements so that the entire population of the state could be vaccinated against COVID-19 within three-four months.

Hearing a PIL on the state’s preparedness against COVID-19, a two-judge bench asked the Yogi Adityanath-led government to take steps to ensure “immediate procurement of vaccines” so that the entire population of Uttar Pradesh can get vaccinated with complete doses within three-four months.

The HC directed the state government to file an affidavit on the next day of hearing of its plan for compliance and purchase of vaccines. It asked the government to pursue its plan to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in rural and suburban areas across the state.

The court also directed the government to ensure that all life-saving drugs seized by the police, pulse oxymeters, oxygen cylinders, etc. are issued and used within a week of such a case. It called on the UP government to come up with a plan to specifically immunize persons with disabilities.

The bench was satisfied with the plea of ​​the state’s counsel that appropriate steps are being taken by the government to reduce the gap in oxygen and drug supply.

Regarding the Panchayat Election aspect of the PIL, the court directed the State Election Commission to put on record CCTV footage, figures of death of polling officers and election agents etc. to establish whether COVID-19 protocol was followed during the recently-concluded polls.

The State Election Commission had reported 77 such deaths across 28 districts. Figures from the rest of the districts are yet to arrived and will be furnished on the next date of hearing.

The court posted the matter for the next hearing on May 11.
