Karnataka Issues New COVID Rules For Visitors From Maharashtra

Mumbai: People travelling from Maharashtra to Karnataka by any mode of transport will have to follow the new COVID-19 guidelines in view of the subsequent rise in daily coronavirus.

The Karnataka government, in an order issued on Monday, said the new rules would be applicable only to short-term travellers from Maharashtra or those visiting the southern state for a day or two.

The order said that people travelling from Maharashtra to Karnataka should be free from fever, cough, cold, sore throat, fever, shortness of breath, etc.

“It will be mandatory for the passengers to carry the thermal scanning for fever and the COVID-19 vaccination certificate for both doses on arrival,” the statement said.

The statement further said that travellers from Maharashtra including Mumbai are required to wear face masks and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour during their stay in Bengaluru and Karnataka.

“Persons strictly adhering to the rules may be exempted from mandatory RT-PCR negative test reports for a short period of travel. Therefore, the concerned authorities are directed to ensure the same,” the statement said.

The number of COVID-19 infections in Karnataka has come down significantly in recent weeks.

Last month, the state government issued new guidelines for international travellers arriving in the state from the United Kingdom and countries in Europe, including South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.

As per the order, all passengers will have to submit a self-declaration form, a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report within 72 hours of the commencement of the journey.
