Kathua Rape Case: FIR Filed Against SIT For Torturing Witness

Mumbai: In a major development in the Kathua murder and rape case, a local court has directed the police to file an FIR against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is investigating the matter.

According to reports, the SIT allegedly tortured and coerced witnesses to make false statements.

The court ordered registration of FIR against the SSP RK Jala (now retired), ASP Pirzada Naved, Deputy Superintendents of Police Shatambari Sharma and Nisar Hussain, sub-inspector Uranjan Wani and only Kishore of the crime branch of the police and SSP (Jammu) 11 To report compliance by the next date of hearing on November.

10 Months back ie on January 10, 2018, an eight-year-old village girl was kidnapped and was allegedly raped in captivity in a village temple for four days before she was killed. The brutal rape and murder shook the entire country leading to nationwide protests.

The Supreme Court and the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir considered the rationale of the applicant and counsel for the order. As per the affidavit of the applicant’s counsel, any proceedings are pending for disposal in the apex court in respect of the case under consideration, ”the court order said.

The case saw an in-camera trial that lasted for a year. The trial was moved to Pathankot in Punjab after lawyers in Kathua tried to stop the charge sheet from being presented to the court.

In June this year, District and Sessions Judge Tejwinder Singh sentenced three others to life imprisonment, sentencing them to five years in prison for destroying evidence in the case.
