Kejriwal Urges LG Anil Baijal To Allow Chhath Puja Celebrations In Delhi

Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has requested Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to allow Chhath Puja celebrations in Delhi with adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

In the letter, Kejriwal said, “The situation of COVID-19 in Delhi is under control for the last three months. I believe that we should allow the festival of Chhath Puja to be held with the COVID-19 protocol.”

The Delhi Chief Minister further said that neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana have allowed their residents to celebrate the festival with necessary Covid-19 protocols.

He further said, “I request you to convene an urgent meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to pass the order allowing the celebration of ‘Chhath Puja’.”

The letter comes at a time when the opposition BJP in the state is demanding that the festival be allowed. Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday staged a sit-in outside the official residence of CM Arvind Kejriwal, demanding permission for Chhath Puja in Delhi.

Earlier on September 30, the Delhi government stated the Chhath puja celebration shall not be allowed in public places, public grounds, riverbanks, and temples citing the COVID-19 pandemic in the national capital.
