Kerala Bans Mass Gatherings For Onam, Muharram, Janmashtami, Durga Puja

Mumbai: Kerala government has said that no public observation of festivals or mass gatherings will be permitted in the state during Onam, Muharram, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja.

The decision was taken by the Kerala Disaster Management Department in the wake of the central government’s warning to all states about the possibility of mass gatherings during these festivals, which turn into super-spreaders of COVID-19, leading to a rise in infections. it occurs. said the order.

The Union Health Ministry has advised all states to actively consider imposing local restrictions on public inspection of these festivals and curbing mass gatherings.

In view of the advice of the Central Government, the Government of Kerala has decided that “no public observation of festivals or mass gatherings shall be permitted during the above festivals in the State”, the order stated.

In addition, from August 12, special stringent lockdown restrictions will be imposed in panchayats or urban wards where the spread of infection is severe and the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR) is above 8.

“In areas where new cases are increasing, micro- containment and testing will be intensified,” the order said.

It further said that from August 15, a maximum of 15,000 devotees will be allowed daily for Sabarimala pilgrimage and ‘darshan’ and virtual queue registration for crowd management will continue.

It also states that people who have not received a single dose of vaccine so far or whose RT-PCR test is not more than 72 hours old or have not been infected with Kovid-19 in the past month, may be given some essential can do activities.

The latest order clarified that those who are yet to receive COVID-19 vaccination or cannot take the vaccine due to drug allergy or other ailments can move out of their houses for essential activities like purchase of food items, including grocery, milk, meat, fish etc.
