Kuldeep Sengar Sentenced To Life Imprisonment In Unnao Rape Case

Co-accused Shashi Singh, who allegedly took the minor to Sanger, was given the benefit of the doubt and released by the court

Mumbai: In a huge development in Unnao Rape case, Delhi High Court sentenced expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar to life imprisonment and asked him to pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim.

Hearing the order, the court said, “As a public figure, people believed in what was betrayed.” District Judge Dharmesh Kumar Sharma directed Sengar to give 10 lakh to the victim and 15 lakh to the prosecution.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will assess the perception of danger and provide necessary protection to the victim and his family. He has also been directed to the CBI to provide safe houses.

The court earlier this week convicted Sengar for raping a four-time BJP MLA from Bangarmau, Uttar Pradesh, in 2017 for raping a girl at her residence in Unnao, where she went in search of a job.

The court convicted him under sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 5 (c) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, which related to penetrating sexual assault committed by a child Is a public servant

Co-accused Shashi Singh, who allegedly took the minor to Sanger, was given the benefit of the doubt and released by the court.

In April 2018, the case came to light after a woman was found to be unethically threatening outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence, when the police refused to register a case in August 2017 complaining to him.

In her statement, she alleged that she was abducted by Sanger in 2017 and when she was a minor. She further stated that Sanger assaulted her on several occasions, imprisoned her at her home, forced her to give up her studies and even threatened to suffer dire consequences if she ever raised her voice.
