Legal Age To Drink In Delhi Will Now Be 21: Deputy CM Sisodia

Mumbai: In a recent development, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today announced that the legal age to drink in Delhi will now be 21. Earlier, the legal age to consume liquor in Delhi was 25.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in a press conference, announced the changes to the Excise Police.

Further, the deputy CM also announced that the Delhi government would no longer run liquor shops in the city and new liquor shops would not be opened in the national capital.

Manish Sisodia said, “It is not the responsibility of the government to run liquor shops.”

“The new excise policy was approved today by the cabinet based on the recommendations of the Group of Ministers. It was decided that no new liquor shops would be opened in the national capital and the government would not run any liquor shops. Currently, 60 per cent of liquor shops in Delhi are run by the government,” Sisodia said at a press conference.

Announcing a set of new rules for liquor shops, the Deputy Chief Minister said that liquor shops should have an area of ​​500 square feet and said that windows in such shops should not face the street.

“Government will ensure equitable distribution of liquor shops so that liquor mafia are thrown out of the trade. Revenue growth of 20 per cent is estimated after the reforms in the excise department,” Manish Sisodia said.
