Live Streaming Of Important Constitutional Cases : Supreme Court

Mumbai (New Delhi) : The Supreme Court today allowed the live streaming of the most important cases that take place in the Court of the Chief Justice of India. The Court will soon disclose the guidelines and rules and terms regarding the new decision taken by the Supreme Court.

The petition regarding the cases which took  time for judgement in the Court by Swapnil Tripathi, and another by Senior Advocate Indira Jaising.

The petition sought live streaming and webcast of cases of national and Constitutional importance. The petition then was accepted by Attorney General of India KK Venugopal who then submitted the guidelines of the following to the Chief Justice’s Court for Constitutional cases.

After hearing the proposed guidelines Bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrashekhar, penned the opinions and passed the judgement.

 

During the course of the hearing, the Bench had observed that a step like live streaming “was the need of the hour” not only for decongesting the courtrooms, but also to fully implement the idea of an “open court”.

The media interference well known as ‘Media Trial’ was also an issue raising in the decisions. Justice Chandrachud opining that the menace of misreporting was already prevalent in the absence of live streaming of court proceedings and could perhaps be curbed by implementing this exercise.
