Looking At Procuring 350 Aircraft Over Next 2 Decades: IAF Chief

Mumbai: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking at procuring around 350 aircraft in the next two decades, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said on Wednesday.

In an address at a conference on the Indian aerospace sector, the Air Force Chief also talked about the need to develop anomalous capabilities to enhance the overall strength of the Indian Air Force to meet the challenges from China.

“Looking at the northern neighbour, we should have specific technologies which should be made in-house by our own industry for security reasons,” the IAF chief said.

Emphasizing on making India self-reliant in the defense sector to meet various challenges, Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria said that the Indian Air Force is looking at procuring around 350 aircraft from within the country in the next two decades.

At the same time, he noted that it is a rough projection.

The IAF chief also said the Tejas light combat aircraft project has instilled confidence in the aerospace industry in India and that it has huge potential to grow further.
