Madhya Pradesh Extends COVID-19 Curfew Till May 15

Mumbai: Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday announced that COVID-19 ‘junta curfew’ has been extended till May 15. Announcing the decision, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed officials to ensure that the ‘corona curfew’ is enforced without any laxity.

CM Chauhan said in a statement, “Madhya Pradesh was seventh in terms of transmission till April 21 and we have brought it down to the fourteenth place with your support.”

The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to postpone all wedding plans as such events can prove to be super-spreaders. CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that measures to reduce meetings in all districts should be reviewed and weddings should not be allowed in the month of May.

CM Chouhan appealed to all political parties, civil society and volunteers to rise above differences and work together on this problem emerging for humanity.

“I need your support. Everyone knows that our country, state and the whole world are fighting a battle against Corona. I am indebted to the public, elected representatives, volunteers and civil society outfits who have extended absolute support to the government,” said the Chief Minister.

He said that the positivity rate in Madhya Pradesh has come down from the earlier 25 per cent to 18 per cent. CV Chauhan said that the recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is now 85.13 per cent.

“I request you to halt all activities till May 15. Strict adherence to Janata curfew is a must. I want normal life to resume in the coming days which is why we must take stringent action for some days,” the MP Chief Minister appealed to the public.

Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday reported 12,319 Covid-19 cases and 71 fatalities, taking the tally of infections in the state to 6,24,985 and the death toll to 6,074, they said.

A of 9,643 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the count of recoveries to 5,29,667, the department said. With 1,817 new cases, Indore’s caseload went up to 1,19,902, while that of rose to 98,055 with the addition of 1,579 cases reported seven deaths taking the district’s toll to 1,176 and the fatalities in Bhopal stood at 770 with six more deaths. Indore is now left with 12,930 active cases while Bhopal has 11,107 such cases
